SUNY Polytechnic Institute's College of Engineering invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Robotics Engineering invites applications with expertise including but not limited to advanced manufacturing, autonomy, or UAV technologies. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for developing next-generation solutions that push the boundaries of intelligent robotics through the integration of AI/ML techniques.
The successful applicant will reside in the program of either Mechanical Engineering or Electrical & Computer Engineering, and will support the affiliated ABET accredited B.S. degree program that addresses national and regional workforce needs and offers our graduates excellent employment opportunities and grow and support graduate degree programs in ME or ECE. Both departments are expanding rapidly, with new master’s programs underway and a Ph.D. program in development within the next two years, providing significant opportunities to shape graduate education.
This position offers the chance to play a key role in young, vibrant, and fast-growing departments, with strong expectations for collaboration with other faculty members on SUNY Poly’s emerging interests in the four Pillar areas of SUNY Poly: Materials, Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing; AI and Information Technology; Smart Infrastructure and Sustainability; and Healthcare & Wellbeing. The successful candidate will 1) Demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching in the area of robotics engineering and in the lower division engineering sciences, 2) Have a track record of outstanding academic and scholarly achievements in robotics engineering, and 3) Will be able to develop an externally funded research program.
Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching experience at the collegiate level and a strong background related to and capable of supporting SUNY Poly's emerging interests in engineering and the impact of engineering and STEM related work on modern society. The Mechanical Engineering program currently consists of six tenure-track or tenured faculty members, whose teaching and research expertise includes thermofluidic engineering, aerodynamics, materials engineering, robotics, design, and manufacturing. The Electrical & Computer Engineering currently consists of four tenure-track or tenured faculty members, whose teaching and research expertise includes communications and signal processing, Terahertz-band wireless communications, and nanoscale optical communications for bio-sensing and bio-actuation. It is expected that the successful candidate's research interests will complement the interests of existing engineering faculty at SUNY Poly.
Specific duties include:
- Teaching and developing curricula for a variety of undergraduate and graduate engineering courses in both lecture and laboratory settings, covering robotics engineering and lower division engineering science.
- Developing an externally funded scholarly research program in robotics engineering incorporating graduate and undergraduate students, including academic, industry or government lab/agency collaborations.
- Advising undergraduate students and assist with a variety of student club activities.
- Working with the engineering faculty to maintain EAC-ABET accreditation.
- Serving the college and community through outreach activities. During the first two years of the appointment, a reduced teaching load which includes two classes per semester can be anticipated, providing an opportunity to establish a research program and develop courses.
- Other responsibilities include contributing to the assessment and continued development of engineering courses and contributing to the university community through committee service and other activities.
- Other reasonable duties are also assigned.
Salary Range: Assistant $90,000 - $100,000 / Associate $100,000 - $110,000 / Full Professor $110,000+

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering or a related field with a specialty area of Robotics, from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized organization.
- A record of outstanding academic and scholarly achievements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in ME or ECE from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized organization.
