Who are we and why is this role important?

FMI is a dynamic national trade association located in Crystal City, Virginia just a few Metro stops away from Washington, D.C.  We work with and on behalf of the entire food retail industry to advance a safer, healthier, and more efficient consumer food supply chain.  The reach and impact of our work is extensive, ultimately touching the lives of over 100 million households in the United States and representing an $800 billion industry with nearly 6 million employees. The person in this role will develop and manage FMI’s education programs to support assigned member companies and content areas. This role is vital in ensuring the implementation of FMI’s strategic plan and managing program profits and losses to ensure department goals are achieved.

What will you do in this role?

In this role, you’ll get the fun opportunity to determine FMI member educational needs via surveys, committees, and industry networking opportunities to then translate those needs into marketable education programs. You’ll also develop the design, budget and marketing strategy for FMI conferences and educational events and webinars. Collaborating with the marketing, finance, and logistics departments, you will act as the gatekeeper for each event’s content development, assisting with the development of program promotional materials, identifying sponsorship opportunities, and coaching event keynote speakers and presenters. You will also play a major role in managing various types of planning committees. This role requires travel roughly three to six times per year. This is truly a position with variety!

Who will excel in this role?

You’ll be successful in this role if you are a critical thinker who can think ahead and juggle multiple priorities at one time, coupled with a minimum of five to seven years of relevant experience working with education program design, development, and delivery. If you are a team player, who is flexible and patient, with strong project management skills, this is the role to advance your career.  You should also have a strong knack for technology with the ability manage multiple event platforms and systems with confidence. Knowledge of the food and/or retail industry and general business concepts is a plus.
