Description

Principal Responsibilities

In collaboration with the corporate and operating management teams, this role is responsible for developing and overseeing the business strategies and operating processes of the corporate fleet management department; providing support to the Company in connection with merger and acquisition transactions; developing, prioritizing, and executing fleet management improvement initiatives; and managing annual fleet capital and operating budgets in excess of $20 million.

1.       Fleet Strategy Development and Planning

a.       Develop, obtain approval, implement, and continue to refine a multi-year fleet transformation strategy based on recommendations from a recent consulting study including both fleet acquisition and maintenance & repair.

b.       Work collaboratively with consultants retained to assist in the design, development,  implementation, and ongoing support of selected transformation/improvement strategies and business processes.

c.       Develop implementation plans taking into consideration ongoing transformation/improvement activities; pertinent fleet industry trends; and Fleet   Department priorities and available resources and constraints.

d.       Utilize appropriate project management and performance measurement techniques to effectively execute strategies and plans, manage progress, and measure and report on desired outputs and outcomes.

e.       Provide fleet-related expertise, guidance, and support for Company merger and acquisition transactions.

2.       Fleet Cost and Financial Management

a.       Provide for the cost-effective acquisition fleet assets, including developing and maintaining vendor partner relationships, negotiating contracts, and overseeing the supply chain and asset delivery process.

b.       Oversee development and implementation of annual fleet replacement plan and capital expenditures budget in cooperation with the Operating Partners and Operating Company presidents.

c.       Oversee development and implementation of annual Fleet and Equipment operating budget.

d.       Develop and implement Maintenance & Repair programs which will be executed at the operating company level to support the selected strategy.

e.       Lead the implementation and maintenance of the organization’s fleet management software system.

f.        Develop cost of service model to identify costs of providing fleet management services.

g.       Track fleet utilization across operating companies, make recommendations on efficient fleet utilization in cooperation with local leadership and execute recommendations.

3.       Fleet Department Management

a.       Provide leadership and support to Operating Company Fleet Department staff.

b.       Build a supportive and cohesive work network among the fleet departments at all of the operating companies.

c.       Oversee assigned staff and engage in active performance management.

d.       Work closely with retained consultants to ensure the successful configuration, deployment, and use of enterprise fleet asset management and telematics solutions.

e.       Oversee development and implementation of, and enforce compliance with, all fleet  policies and procedures.

f.        Oversee development and dissemination to Fleet Department staff and  other stakeholders of appropriate fleet-related performance, utilization, and cost reports.

4.       Fleet Stakeholder Management

a.       Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with operating company leadership and operating company fleet departments.

b.       Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with appropriate company executives and team members, including Finance, HR, IT, Training & Development, and Risk Management & Safety.

c.       Collaborate with internal company teams on vehicle specification and configuration that integrates the principles of lean production management.

d.       Collaborate with the company's Safety & Risk team on the implementation and management of training, telematics, and potentially a vehicle-based video solution to build and maintain an exceptional vehicle safety program.



Requirements

·         Must exude the company values in all respects:

o   Human – while the Vice President of Fleet’s work is largely focused on vehicle and equipment assets, it will be critical for this person to have excellent interpersonal skills as the strategies that will be executed will be done through a team of people, many of which won’t report directly to this role.

o   Exceptional – we are looking for the right “A” player to build an exceptional and well-rounded fleet strategy for company that will create immediate value for the organization.

o   Accountable – the Vice President of Fleet will have to demonstrate a high level of ownership and responsibility – both to internal company team members and to our operating company leadership.

·         Minimum of 10 years of progressive fleet experience.

·         Demonstrated knowledge of fleet management best thinking.

·         Development, implementation, and direction of overall fleet management program  including key functions such as:

o   Fleet strategy development and implementation

o   Fleet budget development, forecasting, and expense management.

o   Asset allocation and utilization management.

o   Fleet acquisition and disposal

o   Fleet replacement planning.

o   In-house versus outsourced maintenance and repair program management.

o   Fleet-related supplier network development and management.

·         Fleet asset and processes integration related to mergers and acquisitions.

·         Fleet management-related organization and staffing.

·         Policy and procedure development.

·         Fleet cost charge-back rate development, billing, and revenue and expense reconciliation.

·         Fleet management-related data analysis and reporting including total cost of ownership.

·         Fleet management and utilization performance measurement and benchmarking.

·         Bachelor’s degree required

·         Proficient in use of common business productivity applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
